Donations from WCV
The Wildlife Center of Virginia (WCV) has very kindly made several shipments of donated medical supplies to the Belize Wildlife Conservation Network. They generously agreed to send these medical supplies to support wildlife conservation and humane societies in Belize, as available and needed. We would like to make these supplies available not only to BWCN members but also to all in-country veterinarians and humane societies.
We typically have sutures, needle holders, hemostats, bandages, and so on.
For a full list of what is currently available please click here. (Please forgive us if it's not completely up to date!)
For a full list of equipment that it would be possible for WCV to send to us in future, click here.
Please email us with requests for donations or with a wishlist of items you would like to be shipped down next time.
In order for you to receive donations if you are not yet a member of BWCN, we would like to ask you to simply join the Belize Wildlife Conservation Network and to agree to assist wildlife conservation when possible (e.g. by allowing us to inform you on legal and medical issues related to wildlife, participating in the network, using at least some of the donated materials (>50%) on wildlife or shelter animals, or donating other services in return).
Another example of assistance from participating veterinarians could be first aid and transportation to appropriate facilities, or euthanasia for an injured wild animal.

- Colette Kase from Be Kind Belize has compiled a series of factsheets for children. They are designed to dispell some of the common myths about animals and inform children of the importance of respect and care for these animals. Please help yourself and use in whatever way you can.

- Jan Meerman wrote an extensively detailed document in 2005 entitled Compilation of Information on Biodiversity in Belize. This is a fascinating and informative document and we are very grateful to Mr Meerman for allowing us to host it here.
- The Forest Department, The Belize Zoo and Panthera teamed up to create a document aimed at helping farmers protect their animals from jaguars. This is available in English and Spanish.
- This document, Minimum Standards for Wildlife Rehabilitation (Third Edition, 2000), was written by the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council and the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association. It is a must-read for anyone involved in wildlife rehabilitation and describes such issues as enclosure sizes and disease control.
